Judge Jeffrey White to move permanently to Oakland Division in April 2014
In April 2014, Judge White will permanently relocate his Chambers to the Oakland Division, at which time all proceedings in Judge White’s civil and criminal cases will be heard in Oakland. Until then, Judge White will continue to travel to Oakland to hold law and motion hearings for Oakland-venued criminal cases on the first Friday of each month, except for months that Judge White serves as General Duty Judge in San Francisco.
While criminal law and motion hearings will occur in Oakland, all pretrial conferences, trials and evidentiary hearings will continue to be heard in San Francisco until Judge White permanently relocates to the Oakland Division. All proceedings prior to the initial appearance (e.g., arraignments, attorney appointment proceedings, detention hearings) in cases assigned to Judge White shall, however, be conducted by the Criminal Duty Magistrate Judge in Oakland, as with any Oakland-venued criminal case.
Manually-filed documents in Judge White's Oakland criminal cases must continue be filed in the Oakland Clerk's Office, and (until April 2014) chambers copies should be submitted to Judge White's San Francisco chambers in accordance with his standing orders. When a party is seeking to file a document under seal, they must follow the procedures required by Criminal Local Rules. All under-seal documents should be lodged with the Oakland Clerk's Office. The parties shall, however, submit a chambers copy of the under-seal documents directly to Judge White's San Francisco chambers in accordance with his standing orders until such time as Judge White relocates to the Oakland Division in April 2014.
Judge White is no longer assigned new San Francisco-venued criminal cases.
Judge White's official start date in Oakland and his Oakland address will be posted to the website in January 2014.
