Judge Tigar to be Assigned Oakland Criminal Cases and Hold Criminal Hearings in Oakland

As of Wednesday, August 7, 2013, Judge Jon S. Tigar will be assigned Oakland-venued criminal cases. Judge Tigar will no longer be assigned new San Francisco-venued criminal cases.

On Friday, September 20, 2013, at 9:30 a.m. and every third Friday of the month thereafter, Judge Tigar will appear in Oakland to hold law and motion hearings for Oakland-venued criminal cases. Information regarding the location of Judge Tigar's Oakland criminal hearings will be posted on his weekly calendar on the Court's website.

While motion hearings will occur in Oakland, all pretrial conferences, trials and evidentiary hearings in Judge Tigar's Oakland criminal cases will continue to be heard in San Francisco.  Also, during the months that Judge Tigar serves as General Duty Judge in San Francisco, he will hold no calendars in Oakland.

Until September 20, 2013, in-court appearances for Judge Tigar's Oakland criminal cases will take place in San Francisco during his regular criminal law and motion calendar on Fridays at 9:00 a.m. in Courtroom 9 on the 19th Floor. However, all proceedings prior to the initial appearance (e.g., arraignments, attorney appointment proceedings, detention hearings) in Oakland criminal cases assigned to Judge Tigar shall be conducted by the Criminal Duty Magistrate Judge in Oakland, as with any Oakland-venued criminal case.

Manually-filed documents in Judge Tigar's Oakland criminal cases must be filed in the Oakland Clerk's Office, and chambers copies should be submitted to Judge Tigar's San Francisco chambers in accordance with his standing orders. When a party is seeking to file a document under seal, they must follow the procedures required by the Criminal Local Rules. All under seal documents should be lodged with the Oakland Clerk's Office. However, the parties shall submit a chambers copy of the under seal documents directly to Judge Tigar's San Francisco chambers in accordance with his standing orders.
