Two pods at Santa Rita jail in Dublin, Alameda County, were placed on quarantine today. One as a direct response to Covid-19 exposure of a medical employee and the other, out of an abundance of caution, due to a case of pneumonia (or another medical condition). Those pods include federal pretrial detainees. The court has collaborated with its institutional partners and has decided, in the interest of public health, to immediately suspend transportation of detainees from Santa Rita Jail to the federal courthouse during the quarantine. In-custody criminal appearances set for Friday, March 27, 2020, have been continued to March 30, 2020, and will be conducted by telephone or video. The court is working with the U.S. Marshals Service and the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office to develop a communications network.
