Due to the level of interest in this case, this web page has been created to notify journalists and interested members of the public of important news and information about access to proceedings and to case information.

In June 2010, the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit affirmed Judge Illston’s evidentiary rulings and remanded USA v. Bonds to this court for further proceedings, including trial now scheduled for March 21, 2011. The Ninth Circuit’s opinion is dated June 11, 2010 and may be found on the Ninth Circuit’s website (www.ca9.uscourts.gov . . . ).

The court maintains a special mailing group and listserve for USA v. Bonds that allows subscribers to receive (1) notices of electronic filing for all documents filed in the case and (2) updates directed to members of the media from the court’s Media Liaison.

Access to hearings in USA v. Bonds:

Hearings will be held before District Judge Susan Illston at the San Francisco courthouse.

The following procedures apply for trial.

  1. Trial begins at 8:30 a.m. Monday through Thursday.
  2. The hearings are open to the public, but seating in the courtroom is limited. The court has issued media credentials especially for trial. Certain rows in the courtroom are set aside for the media and for sketch artists; others are set aside for the public. Court-issued credentials will be required for the reserved media seats and sketch artist seats during trial; effective March 25, 2011, no more media credentials will be issued. There will be no other reserved seating.
  3. Overflow seating with live video feed and evidence display will be offered in the Ceremonial Courtroom (19th floor) and the Media Center (1st floor).
  4. Journalists should review the updated USA v. Bonds Guide for Journalists.
  5. Members of the public should bring a government-issued picture ID (such as a driver’s license) and should not bring cameras or other prohibited items to the courthouse. Cell phones are allowed but must be turned off in court.
