Law Clerk to Magistrate Judge Thomas Hixson (.pdf, 102 KB)

Magistrate Judge Thomas Hixson is seeking a Judicial Term Law Clerk in San Francisco, CA, for a term of one year (6/2/2025-6/2/2026), with the possibility of an extension for up to two years total. Conduct independent legal research and analysis, assist in drafting opinions and/or bench memoranda, and assist with hearing preparation and scheduling. Advise and make recommendation to the Judge on pending motions and requests. Proactively review assigned cases, including at intake, to determine if any initial action on the case is required. Most assigned cases are civil, but the position requires work on some criminal matters and habeas petitions.

Pro Se Law Clerk (Full-Time) (.pdf, 132 KB)

The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California is seeking a full-time Pro Se Law Clerk to assist the Court with the processing of civil rights complaints and habeas corpus petitions filed by prisoners not represented by counsel. The Pro Se Law Clerk screens the complaints and petitions, conducts legal research, and prepares proposed orders and opinions in these cases for the Court, and performs other legal and administrative duties as assigned. The position is based in San Francisco, CA but telework arrangements may be considered. (Priority consideration given to applicants who apply by January 17, 2025)
