Model Application to Seal in Criminal Cases

The Court has recently developed a template for filing Applications to Seal in criminal cases. This template is intended to make it easier for attorneys to provide the information judges need to evaluate such motions. Sample language is included to illustrate the type of information judges typically expect.

The template is a fillable PDF and allows attorneys to request the sealing of multiple items within a single application, as well as provide a declaration and proposed order. As this is a new tool, we welcome your feedback—if you encounter any issues, please contact us at media@cand.uscourts.gov.
