Unless the Court has authorized a remote appearance in advance, all civil motions and criminal calendars are heard in-person in Courtroom 3, 5th Floor, in the San Jose Courthouse. Requests shall be submitted on the docket no fewer than 7 days prior to the hearing.

Case Management Conferences and Other Remote Proceedings
The court will use Zoom Meetings (as opposed to Zoom Webinars) for case management conferences, settlement conferences, and other hearings that have been granted leave to be heard remotely. See Judge Wise’s Standing Orders. To join a meeting, click on the link below. You will initially enter a “waiting room” and will be admitted into the meeting by court staff.

Join a Meeting by Phone or Other Connection
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you are a case participant (attorney, party, witness, or other person who will actively participate in the hearing), it is strongly recommended that you join Zoom using the Zoom application rather than by a telephone connection. If you must appear by telephone, the numbers posted for each judge are for the public and are listen-only, so you will need to contact the Courtroom Deputy (CRD) at least one business day before the hearing to request a Zoom invitation (which will be sent via email) in order to join the hearing as a case participant.

The processing of unnecessary chambers copies wastes resources and burdens the court. Pursuant to Civil Local Rule 5-1(d)(7), chambers copies should not be submitted unless required by the assigned judge’s standing order or specifically requested by the assigned judge.
Judges’ standing orders may include additional requirements and may differ from the local rules in other particulars. If they are not in agreement, a judge’s standing order supersedes the local rules.

Judge Noël Wise served as a law clerk to Justice Harry Lee Anstead and then entered the United States Department of Justice through the Attorney General’s Honors Program in 1994 where she served as a trial attorney in Washington, D.C., and as an Assistant United States Attorney in Southern District of California. In 2000 she received the Attorney General’s Distinguished Service Award from Janet Reno.
She served as in-house counsel and as a director of power generation at Pacific Gas & Electric and later started a women-owned law firm in the bay area. She has taught at numerous law schools including UC Berkeley and Stanford.
In 2014 Governor Jerry Brown appointed Judge Wise to the California Superior Court, County of Alameda, where she served until 2024. During that time Judge Wise had numerous assignments including as the Supervising Judge of the Court’s Appellate, Settlement, and Civil Complex Divisions. From 2021 to 2022, Judge Wise sat on assignment for Division Seven of the California Second District Court of Appeal. During the years Judge Wise served as a California Superior Court judge, she served on the board of several non-profit organizations, including Girls Inc of Alameda County, and the Alameda Food Bank. She also sat on numerous state-wide judicial committees, including serving as the chair of the Judicial Council’s Access, Ethics and Fairness Curriculum Committee, and taught judicial education courses, including at Judicial College, and New Judge Orientation.
In 2024, President Biden nominated Judge Wise for a seat on the federal district court for the Northern District of California. She was confirmed by the United States Senate, and Judge Wise took the oath of office in December 2024.
