The protective orders on this page are court-approved model forms. For patent cases, Patent Local Rule 2-2 provides that the “Protective Order authorized by the Northern District of California shall govern discovery unless the Court enters a different protective order.” That interim protective order is below. The below “Stipulated Protective Order for Litigation Involving Patents, Highly Sensitive Confidential Information and/or Trade Secrets” offers other options to which counsel may stipulate.
With the exception of Patent Local Rule 2-2, the Local Rules do not require the parties to use any of the model protective orders and counsel may stipulate to or move for another form of protective order.
