All parties are advised that effective Monday, October 20, 2025, the judiciary will run out of funding and only limited operations will continue. As a consequence, court staff will not be paid despite the requirement to work on essential matters.
Accordingly, if the shutdown continues after October 24, 2025, the Court will take all motion hearings under submission, to be rescheduled, if a hearing is necessary, upon resumption of funding of the federal judiciary.
And, beginning immediately, and until the judiciary is funded, parties shall meet and confer before filing any motion. The parties shall determine whether the litigation can proceed without the motion or whether the motion must be urgently resolved. If the latter, lead counsel shall file a certification attesting to the same with the filing of any motion. Failure to provide the certification may result in a sua sponte denial without prejudice.

The processing of unnecessary chambers copies wastes resources and burdens the court. Pursuant to Civil Local Rule 5-1(d)(7), chambers copies should not be submitted unless required by the assigned judge’s standing order or specifically requested by the assigned judge.
Judges’ standing orders may include additional requirements and may differ from the local rules in other particulars. If they are not in agreement, a judge’s standing order supersedes the local rules.
The pertinent parts of District Judge Corley’s standing orders are set forth below:
Chamber copies are not required unless specifically requested by the Court.
While the requirement of chambers copies has been suspended, the Court may request that a party provide chambers copies for particularly voluminous filings. If the Court does so, the chambers copies should be double-sided (when possible), three-hole punched along the left side of the page, and should bear the ECF filing “stamp” (case number, docket number, date, and ECF page number) along the top of the page. All exhibits shall be clearly delineated with labels along the right side. If the filing includes exhibits over two-inches thick, the parties shall place the chambers copy in a binder. The chambers copies shall be marked “Chambers Copy” and submitted to the Clerk’s Office, in an envelope marked with “Judge Corley,” the case number, and “Chambers Copy.”

- Does the Court allow telephone/Zoom appearances for motion hearings?

No, you do not need to reserve a hearing date or contact the Court for a date. Please follow the local rules (See Civil LR 7-2) and set the hearing on a Thursday at 10:00 a.m. in San Francisco. You can check the Court’s availability under the Scheduling Notes link on the webpage.
- How can I tell if a hearing is being held by Zoom videoconference?
If you see a link beneath the case number and case name as listed below, it will indicate that the proceeding is being held by Zoom videoconference.
- Does the Court require courtesy copies of complaints and briefs?
